97-Alfonso Mondelo ENYHOF 2019 LISFL/NY Hota

Following an extensive career as a player, coach and executive, Mondelo joined Major League Soccer’s New York headquarters as Director of Player Programs in 2005.

Mondelo, a native of Spain, works closely with the Commissioner’s Office and the Competition Department, focused on player development and acting as a player consultant for all 24 MLS clubs. Mondelo currently works as Technical Director, Competition overseeing MLS’ on-field competition and player development programs, such as Generation adidas Cup, and is part of various player and competition committees dedicated to the growth of the sport.

Mondelo began his coaching career in Eastern New York Soccer Association with the NY Hota-Bavarian S.C. From 1981-1994, Mondelo played and served as coach of the senior team, as well as several youth teams in the club. He also coached the League All-Star teams for the Cosmopolitan and North Eastern Super Soccer League. In ENYYSA Mondelo served as Director of Coaching and Director of the ODP Program and represented the State Association as a Youth Coach for the Region 1 select programs.

Mondelo served as a member of the U.S. Soccer Federation’s National coaching staff, having worked with the Men’s National Team in the 1999 Confederations Cup as well as the Under-14 and Under-18 youth national teams. He is also a member of the U.S. Soccer’s coaching education staff. Prior to joining MLS’ headquarters, Mondelo’s coaching career included the MetroStars in MLS (1998), Tampa Bay Mutiny (2001) the Puerto Rican national team, winning a National Championship in 1994 with the Long Island Rough Riders in the A-League, and the assistant coach for the U.S. National team (1999-2001) under then coach Bruce Arena.

Since 2009, Mondelo continues to serve as Match Commissioner and General Coordinator for FIFA and CONCACAF events, including World Cup qualifiers and Under-20 World Cup tournaments. Mondelo moved from Spain to Queens, NY at age 13, but later played professionally for Spanish Second Division club A.D. Torrejón before his career was cut short due to a knee injury.

He is inducted into the LISFL Hall of Fame, is an Honoree of the NYC Soccer Gala and has received the “Distinguished Latino” award sponsored by NY Spanish language newspaper “El Diario” for his contributions to the sport.

 

98-Yuri Fishman ENYHOF 2019 LISFL/Massapequa

Yuri has been involved with LISFL since 1993 both as a player/coach with Massapequa Reunited O- 30 and a Board member. He has served as a Trustee and a Scheduling Secretary, the position he currently holds. Massapequa Reunited had a successful period in LISFL, winning several League titles, State Cup and reaching Sweet 16 of the National O-30 tournament.

Before joining LISFL, Yuri exceled on the soccer field as a player. Prior to coming to America, he played for Dinamo Kiev, making the Reserve team at the age of 16. After arriving to the U.S., Yuri played 2 years in High School, scoring 95 goals and earning both NSCAA and Parade All-America honors. At Princeton University Yuri was a 3-time All-Ivy League selection, an All-American and is still the 2nd all-time leading scorer with 40 goals. After college, Yuri played for Bergen Kickers and Hartford Portuguese. At the youth level, Yuri coached Connecticut State U-16 ODP team, was a coach in the Massapequa Soccer Club for over 10 years and currently serves as the Club President.

Yuri also represented the U.S. on the international level at the World and Pan-American Maccabi games. As a player he won a Silver medal at the 1981 World Games, was the leading scorer on the 1985 team and won a Bronze medal at the 1987 Pan-American Games.

As a coach, his team won the Sportsmanship Award at the 2013 World Games. LISFL - Have been involved as player / coach and Board member and Scheduler since 1993.ENYSSA Delegate, ENYSSA Cup Supervisor.
