Captain Joseph Brosi explained the connection with the LISFL, "FDNY Soccer Club plays in the LISFL under the club, FSC College Point. We picked the Flames name back in '93 when we came in and it stuck." For more information on the College Point Flames and the FDNY Soccer Club, please visit the club's website.

LISFL President Gus Xikis described the relationship between the league and the FDNY Soccer Club, "The LISFL is very proud to have the FDNY Soccer Club playing in the league as the College Point Flames. The league has always been supportive of this game and any initiative of the FDNY Soccer Club, including it's efforts to promote the Sergio Villanueva Foundation. The backdrop on our league's website on the top is a picture from a game that the FDNY Soccer Club played at Giants Stadium. Joe Brosi is a good friend who contributes a lot to the league and we hope many people involved in our league will go the game on September 22 to show their support."

New York Red Bulls Press Release

HARRISON, NJ (September 16, 2013) – The New York Red Bulls will host the fifth annual Battle on the Pitch featuring soccer squads of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) at Red Bull Arena this Sunday, Sept. 22 at Red Bull Arena. The NYPD and FDNY sides will face off following the completion of the Red Bulls’ 5:00 PM match against FC Dallas.

“As the region’s soccer team, we are proud to once again host the Battle on the Pitch featuring the NYPD and FDNY,” Red Bulls General Manager Jérôme de Bontin said. “These two organizations have an undeniably significant positive impact on our communities and we encourage our fans to come out and support these teams and the Sergio Villanueva Foundation.”

Fans are encouraged to stick around and root for either side, but more importantly watch a good match between two competitive teams and support a good cause. Proceeds from the match will go toward the Sergio Villanueva Foundation. Prior to his career as a firefighter, Sergio was a police officer and detective for the NYPD and a huge fan of soccer. The Argentinean was a victim of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, where he died alongside fellow policemen and firemen as they heroically did their part to save the lives and protect victims of the tragedy.
