Hicksville, NY (4/30/13) - The Long Island Soccer Football League (LISFL) announced today that it will be holding the 2013 Ryder-Vass U-23 Summer Tournament. The tournament will begin on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 and continue throughout the month of July. Each team will be guaranteed a minimum of 6 games plus play-offs. The tournament will conclude in July with the winner representing the LISFL in the New York State U-23 tournament. Registration fees are $550 for junior teams affiliated with ENYYSA or adult teams affiliated with ENYSSA. Non-affiliated teams will be charged $600. Players must be born on or after 9/1/90 to be eligible, although teams are allowed to field 3 over-age players.

The USASA defending national champions Real Caribe SC are expected to begin the defense of their championship by participating in the Ryder-Vass Tournament. Real Caribe SC advanced from the 2012 Ryder-Vass Tournament all the way to the USASA National Championship where they defeated the Croatian Eagles (Wisconsin) by a score of 1-0. Real Caribe Coach Huntley Swaby isn't looking too far ahead though and recently commented that "We can't look too far ahead and have to start again with the high level of competition provided in the LISFL's Ryder-Vass tournament."

LISFL President Gus Xikis issued a letter that was sent to soccer club presidents on Long Island, which described how "As summer draws closer many teams are finishing their game schedules, many former players are returning from college. For some, it may be the last year for the team in league competition, for others fond memories of their former team." Xikis went on to describe the Ryder-Vass Tournament as "the perfect venue to keep your team together" and how "the competition is outstanding with some of the best college players competing in the tournament."
