The Mineola Portuguese Soccer Club has joined with Nassau County to put together an event that will hopefully grow into the largest and brightest display of our sport here on Long Island, the Nassau County Executive Cup at Mitchel Field Stadium. To showcase the sport, the 2011 ENYSSA Manning Cup Champions Mineola Portuguese SC will face off against the LI Rough Riders for Nassau County’s first ever Pro-Am Soccer Cup Final. The success of its objective, to display the popularity of our sport here in Nassau County and Long island, however, requires the help of the entire soccer community.

Since almost all of the central elected officials in Nassau County, including those responsible for parks and sports facilities, will be at the event, we ask that the LISFL help us in spreading the word about this event. As the date of July 23rd nears, we ask that all soccer organizations here in Nassau and Long Island join together to attend this event and show our political leaders how popular soccer really is in our communities.

The success of the 2011 County Executive Cup may well shape the future of the league and soccer on Long Island as we know it.

Attached is the Official Press Release from Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano announcing the Cup.

"In the 1970’s, when the Cosmos played at Hofstra University, Nassau County was at the forefront of soccer here in the United States. This event is the first step forward in returning Nassau County to that prominence. Soccer has pounded at our front door for far too long; It is with this event, the County Executive’s Cup, that we finally open that door and embrace the world’s sport. Today we can proclaim that Soccer is back in Nassau County!"

-Gabriel Marques, general manager of the Mineola Portuguese Soccer Club.
